FIRST's mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

FIRST was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.

FIRST  Scholarship Programs

Many colleges and universities, professional associations, and corporations offer college scholarships to high school students on FIRST teams. This is official recognition of the knowledge and technical and life skills these students have gained from participating in a FIRST competition.

First now has over 200 confirmed scholarship providers that are making available scholarships with a total value of more than $25,000,000.

First Community and Alumni

As a FIRST participant or alumni, you know firsthand how important FIRST was to high school, in college and beyond. Whether you are currently active or not, you can stay connected through the FIRST Community. Signing up only takes a few minutes, and it's free.

The FIRST Community site encourages personal and professional networking among FIRST Alumni, Mentors, Coaches and Volunteers to continue to add value to your FIRST experience.

We thank you for your effort and support and ask for your renewed and continued commitment to bringing the power of FIRST to more young people. If we are to continue to positively transform culture by inspiring students, schools, and our communities to celebrate science, technology, engineering, and math, we need your participation to make a real difference.
